2026 Spokane Preview

Nope, I’m not done with the Spring Sprints Summary, but it’s Spokane week already so I want to get the preview done.

As I write this the weather forecast is looking splendid: High of 70 on Friday (test and tune), and 63 Saturday and Sunday. Maybe a bit cool, but I’ll take that over blistering 90s on an asphalt paddock like last year. While overall registrations are low, we have a whopping 12 Spridgets signed up, including first-time SMC drivers Randy (in the former Volkert orange Bugeye) and Ehab (who will be racing the Arnold car).

For my part, the blue #12 car is ready to go with the backup motor. I haven’t done any further diagnostic work on the primary motor, which suffered two bent valves at Spring Sprints. “Backup” might be misleading; it’s a fresh 1330 build, so it should be solid. I’ll be running the test and tune day to try to get the carbs dialed in. I’m hoping it’s just a matter of adjusting the jets, but I have other needles if needed.

Rod is coming down on Wednesday, then we’ll caravan over on Thursday. Gas is so damned expensive $6+/gallon) that I’m going to sleep in the trailer to save a few bucks.

After a Friday test and tune, we have two days packed full of racing: Four sessions on Saturday capped by the Sprite-Midget Challenge race, and then three more sessions on Sunday.

I’m stoked to have both cars going, and it will be the first time I’ve driving the #12 car there (last year I raced Stephens MG Midget “Major” at Spokane).
